Schools Beach Touch Rugby
The Schools Beach Touch Rugby Tournament is open exclusively to Year 7 students and forms part of the Jersey Beach Rugby & Netball Festival Schools Programme. Designed to be fun, inclusive and fast-paced, the competition introduces young players to the excitement of beach sport in a safe and supportive environment.
The tournament will take place from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, with the first matches kicking off at 12:00pm sharp. We anticipate welcoming 12 teams from six secondary schools across Jersey, creating an exciting afternoon of competition and participation on the sand.
To ensure all students have the opportunity to take part in mixed-team rugby, Jersey's single-gender schools will combine to form teams. Victoria College and Jersey College for Girls will join together, while De La Salle College and Beaulieu will combine their players to create mixed squads for the event.
All participating schools are invited to enter up to two mixed teams. Squads may consist of 8–10 players, allowing for regular substitutions and maximum involvement throughout the tournament.
To encourage inclusivity and balanced participation, each squad must include a minimum of four female players, with at least two girls on the field at all times.
Matches are played using an exciting attacking overload format, with five attacking players taking on four defendersuntil possession changes hands. This creates fast-moving games, plenty of ball touches and opportunities for every player to contribute.
All matches will be played as single 12-minute games with no half-time interval, ensuring a fast-flowing tournament format and maximum playing time for all teams.
The competition will begin with four pools of three teams, with each team playing the other sides in their group. Following the group stage, teams will progress into the knockout rounds based on their final pool standings:
1st place teams progress to the Cup Semi-Finals
2nd place teams progress to the Plate Semi-Finals
3rd place teams progress to the Bowl Semi-Finals
This format ensures every team remains involved throughout the afternoon and has the opportunity to compete for silverware.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Long Beach and Gorey Castle, the tournament offers an unforgettable introduction to beach rugby, combining teamwork, skill development and plenty of fun on the sand while celebrating the spirit of school sport and community participation.
