Schools Beach Touch Rugby Tournament
The Schools Beach Touch Rugby Tournament is open exclusively to Year 7 students and forms part of the Jersey Beach Rugby & Netball Festival Schools Programme. Fun, inclusive and fast-paced, the tournament provides an exciting introduction to beach touch rugby, allowing young players to enjoy sport on the sand while developing confidence, teamwork and new skills in a safe and welcoming environment.
Event Overview
The tournament will take place from 12:00 to 15:00, with the first matches kicking off promptly at 12:00.
We anticipate welcoming 12 teams from eight secondary schools across Jersey, creating an exciting afternoon of continuous competition on the sand. The event is designed to maximise participation, with all teams guaranteed multiple fixtures and meaningful game time.
Mixed Team Format & Requirements
To ensure all students can participate in a fair and inclusive environment, Jersey’s single-gender secondary schools will combine to form mixed teams for the competition.
Victoria College and Jersey College for Girls will combine to make a team
De La Salle College and Beaulieu will combine to make a team
All schools are invited to enter up to two mixed teams, ensuring broad participation across Year 7 cohorts.
Each team may consist of 8–10 players, allowing for regular substitutions and high levels of involvement throughout the afternoon.
To support inclusivity and balanced participation:
Each team must include a minimum of four female players
At least two female players must be on the field at all times
This format is designed to encourage meaningful involvement for all students while maintaining a fair and balanced competition.
Match Format
Matches are played using a dynamic attacking overload format, where five attackers take on four defenders until possession changes hands.
This format creates:
Fast-paced, continuous gameplay
Increased ball involvement for all players
Frequent attacking opportunities and open play scenarios
Teams will use rolling substitutions throughout each match, allowing all players to take part, maintain high energy levels, and maximise their involvement in the game.
All matches are played as single 12-minute games with no half-time interval, ensuring a high-tempo schedule and maximum playing time across the event.
Tournament Structure
The competition begins with a group stage consisting of four pools of three teams. Each team will play the other two sides in their pool.
Following the group stage, teams will progress into knockout competitions based on their final standings:
1st place teams progress to the Cup Semi-Finals
2nd place teams progress to the Plate Semi-Finals
3rd place teams progress to the Bowl Semi-Finals
This structure ensures that every team continues into a knockout stage, maintaining engagement and competitive opportunity throughout the afternoon.
Winners of each knockout pathway will progress to their respective finals, competing for Cup, Plate or Bowl honours.

Your school entry includes:
Entry into the Jersey Beach Rugby Schools Tournament
Up to two mixed teams per school (8–10 players per team)

Guaranteed participation in at least a Semi-Final match for all teams

Teams will compete for trophies and prizes across all three competition pathways:

This ensures that teams of all abilities have the opportunity to compete for silverware and finish the tournament with a sense of achievement.
Code of Conduct
We want the festival to be a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for everyone. All players, supporters and teams are expected to behave respectfully, look after one another and help maintain a positive atmosphere around the pitches, courts and spectator areas. Safety is our priority, and all attendees must follow the guidance of event staff, referees and safety officers throughout the weekend.
Key Expectations
Treat referees, volunteers, event staff and other teams with respect at all times.
No aggressive, abusive or unsporting behaviour on or off the pitch.
Follow all instructions from referees, marshals, safety officers and event staff.
Keep the playing and spectator areas safe and clear, and report any concerns to Event Control.
